Los hogares de ancianos pueden verse como el espacio de trasición entre la vida y la muerte, donde los adultos mayores residen cuando ya no pueden cuidar de sí mismos y no pueden vivir de forma independiente. Puede ser un lugar donde las personas puedan recibir la ayuda que necesitan para mantener su calidad de vida. Sin embargo, también puede ser lugares muy solitarios.
Transición es el resultado de un trabajo documental, aún en ejecución y evolución, que documenta los espacios habitados por ancianos en distintas casa de reposo y asilos nacionales de Lima, Buenos Aires y La Paz, y busca a la vez ser homenaje de la generación más sabia y resiliente. Transición, es una inmersión dentro de estos espacios, colectivos e íntimos, y en muchos casos solitarios, en un periodo que abarca desde el 2001 al 2012.Para realizar las fotografías en estos lugares primero visitaba las instalaciones, me familiarizaba con los residentes, los visitaba, me presentaba y explicaba de qué se trataba mi presencia en ese lugar y les pedia fotografiarlos, a veces donde estuviéramos conversando, que por lo general era el lugar donde la persona solía pasar sus ratos libres durante los varios días en los que los visitaba, y en otras busqué crear un espacio para aislarlos del entorno e invitarlos, como es el caso de los retratos con fondo blanco, en donde los residentes acudían citados con días de anticipación y podían vestirse y llevar objetos de valor para ellos con los que quisieran ser retratados.
Nursing homes can be seen as the transition space between life and death, where older adults reside when they can no longer care for themselves and live independently and have no one to be able to look after them. It can be a place where people can get the help they need to maintain their quality of life.
Transición is the result of a documentary work, still in progress and evolution, that documents the spaces inhabited by the elderly in different nursing homes and national nursing homes in Lima, Buenos Aires and La Paz, and seeks to be a tribute to the older generation. wise and resilient. Transition, is an immersion within these spaces, collective and intimate, and in many cases solitary, in a period that covers from 2001 to 2012.
To take the photographs in these places, I would first visit the facilities, get acquainted with the residents, visit them, introduce myself and explain what my presence in that place was about and ask them to photograph them, sometimes where we were talking, which was usually the place where the person used to spend their free time during the several days in which I visited them, and in others I sought to create a space to isolate them from the environment and invite them to participate, as is the case of the portraits with a white background, where the residents came on appointed days and they could dress and bring valuables for them which they wanted to be portrayed with.
