Chiaroscuro explores the unstable territory between visibility and concealment, where light does not simply reveal and darkness does not simply hide.
A solitary figure emerges and recedes as a moving source of light repeatedly exposes and obscures the body. What begins as illumination gradually becomes something less certain: an act of revelation, intrusion, vulnerability, perhaps even confrontation.
Drawing on Carl Jung’s concept of the shadow, the work considers what happens when what has remained unseen is brought into view.
Rather than presenting darkness as something to overcome, Claroscuro questions the boundaries between the conscious and unconscious, and the desire to make visible what may resist being known.
Here, light and shadow are not opposites but interdependent forces. Each produces the other; each alters what can be perceived.
The work leaves open a question: does bringing something into the light allow us to understand it — or simply change the way it remains hidden?
